    Auto Cad to Lightwave

I have a machining client who uses auto-cad to model their machines, I talked them into getting Lightwave for animating them, what is the best plugin/program to convert autocad to lightwave?

    Thanx in advance, Shawn.

Lightwave can open dxf and 3ds formats from Autocad.
But I think it depends on the amount of detail in the Cad model, i.e. if it's only 2D plans/elevations or is it a 3D model?
The problem with Autocad, is it's a pig to create surfaces etc unless your client has used Revit or a similar program.

I believe they are 3d autocad models with surface colors included, will that much translate?

Accutrans (essentially free) has provided me with the cleanest, most accurate translation of 3d/2d ACAD dxf V2000 files. Autodesk provides converters to bring down the version number of files already exported. Polytrans, I use for dwg 3d/2d. That works fine also, but has some initial expense.

Many times I bring lwo 2d/3d into ACAD via Accutrans. That is wonderful in that I do not need to inform the recipient that I am using LightWave. (don't gloat about this, cresshead)

I use Accutrans 3D for my file conversion needs. It works well and can read and write many different formats as well as handling scaling between programs. You can find it here http://www.micromouse.ca/ and download the trial version.
