I've been using alembic for this now, and works just fine. If there's some problem with the FOV always use the horizontal (or vertical) fov, it should match

yes, unweld the entire set of polygons that you want to unwrap. or the entire mesh, that will work too
as a rule select what you want to flip, and unweld all points, then flip and merge points.
in a lot of uv operations you should unweld stuff before.

are you using a tablet? change that in the preferences and see if that's what was causing the problem
the best option is to model both objects separate. model the donut, copy that mesh to another layer, select the polygons where the icing is going to be, and use thicken.

and remember: unweld is your best friend when doing uvs! before flipping uvs, etc always unweld!
it works fine here in 11.6.2, I used it today in a project and it worked just fine, no errors. You just have to select objects in layout and use it, select a folder. then in modeler, select that...

from wehat juanjo said, only the nodes that come with octane work with octane. So I guess, you can try but you have a huge chance that it won't work.
