Ha :D! Just showing that its possible.
Not using CC with the displacement here, only on the edge sharp example further above.
Certainly, of course, it needs to be dialed in much better. I think I...
Did a quick stab with the displacement/normal route.

Ha! Interesting way to phrase the question :D.
The reason I worded what I said the way I did is simply because CCs in LW have always been poorly implemented. The mesh seems to fall apart and...
Inside LW I agree with wingzeta that a displacement map could work well. Even it's just from a painted image.
But if you want to keep it lower poly: In conjunction with some multi shifting and an...
Yeah, I'm not so sure Krys. This is what I get with a bevel on the purposefully kinda crazy shape I was using.

Multi shift, with it's various shift options, didn't cut it either.
Maybe...
How about a perpendicular-to-edge-in-question Segment Scale approach instead?
Select edge RING

*IMPORTANT* Switch to points (you will most likely have to reselect the point order of...
Ahh. Well then those extra steps really would be needed. Concede to Jeric  :)
Why thank you :o.
And SLICK indeed Jeric! Very Nice.
If we're still spitballing, I did come up with another way that rivals your simplicity, almost...... on an all tri mesh.
Select 1 poly...
I'm assuming it was stuff like this...(offending polys in double-sided red).
The steps above, however, won't catch something like this.... 136755
But these can be taken care of afterwards. Statistics > Points. Highlight: 2 Polygons. Bracket expand the selection once....
Can you post that small section of the mesh?
Never mind.... try this.
Statistics panel > Edges. Highlight: >2 Polygons and 1 Polygon.
Now convert to Polygons. Delete.
Archigram (Field of Dreams?? or just a coincidence? ;))
Are you after an animation or a still?
If a still, you can do two renders and blend them inside LW in the render window using the Alpha as...
Oliverhotz SMASH!!

Do it all at once! :beerchug:
(if you have a million points.... maybe in two or three chunks)
**SOLUTION**
(well, very minimal workaround..... :))
Unweld all then Merge. Done.
Now both work. Info works with points.
Monroe's works with polys.

JOEPOE SMASH! :D
You actually want a piece of the Hulk?! HULK SMASH! :D
Here ya go....
Boy you could tweak this forever......
I combined a couple of the Rman nodes. Shape Bomber (squares) and Stained.

Monroe thanks for all the scripting.
Unfortunately I think the initial problem persists.
This is what I get with a UV brought in as part of an obj. (poly/points are fully within the UV)

How about Rman collection? (part of dp kit)
Stones and/or Cells and/or Stained and Blocks. Lots to play with.
Real quick...

You could probably get the same effect from native...
I've been using the Affinity "suite" for about a year now. I'd be interested to know what you think after some time with it.
IMHO....
Photo is just okay. Very buggy. $50 is about right....
Ahhh. Very good. Don't even need DP. Make Pole does fine too. When doing this, though, special attention needs to be paid to branch tips (if they come to a point). I had to add those points...
Got it. I ran unify polys on your tower and it removed 50. So, somehow you got doubled up. Happens to the best of us :).
Doing the edge thing without doing that first did something similar to what...
Jeric: I can't imagine what's going on. I don't think it's contingent on anything special. In fact I'm trying to break it with all sorts of crazy selections and broken 2 pt chains, and I still get...
You're copying edges into the new layer right? Not points.
Select points after you've pasted the edge loops...
This is what I get on a simple vertical box....
