You cant use it with your Mac, if you are running AE2 V5. In my experience, it only works on Premiere Pro. If you use Final Cut X, it will only be possible in Progressive.

Ok, but as I remember it on the old TC before AE, it had a option to record in Mpeg 2 without the need for Newteks codec installed on an external editor.
Or am I wrong?

If it is a hardware update, then it wont help to roll back to an old version of Advance...
