Hello,

Just to let you know the excellent CG artist and developer Chris Huf has released a new version of his experimental Node Pixel Filter:

tibe3_PixelNode
http://www.splotchdog.com/
(first plugin)

People that like to render independent passes will find it very interesting. Though at this moment it only works for Classic Camera and its tibe3_PFOut needs an update yet, its main advantage is that it applies any nodal setup globally. What this means?

Let's see it with a quick example:

http://imagic.ddgenvivo.tv/forums/tibe3PFNE/TPF_final.png

We can, for example, get a general occlusion pass by just inputting an occlusion node in the PFNode output:

http://imagic.ddgenvivo.tv/forums/tibe3PFNE/TPF_AOcnfg.png

Result:

http://imagic.ddgenvivo.tv/forums/tibe3PFNE/TPF_AO.png

Same thing with an AO pass:

http://imagic.ddgenvivo.tv/forums/tibe3PFNE/TPF_RO.png

Or let's say we want to get an ID Object pass. We just use a simple setup like this in the PF node:

http://imagic.ddgenvivo.tv/forums/tibe3PFNE/TPF_idobj_cnfg.png
(Inspired in Wut's nodal setup)

http://imagic.ddgenvivo.tv/forums/tibe3PFNE/TPF_idobj.png

Customized Depth maps are also simpler than the fog or gradient trick:

http://imagic.ddgenvivo.tv/forums/tibe3PFNE/TPF_dofgrey.png

or a RGBDepth map:

Remember, it's an experimental tool in development and still has some limitations, but you'll surely find it many other usages.

ok since im still a newb to 3D what would the purpose of these seperate passes would be. I understand the depth map pass but not the other ones

With different passes you can do a lot of cool stuff in compositing software like fusion shake or AE etc. You can easily make tweaks to specific parts of the image for example. you don't have to render everything over and over again if you for example want to change an objects color or put a specular on it. etc etc

Wow. That's quite cool.

Symmetrix website is down right now, but we can use also one of the wonderful nodes from Denis Pontonnier (ItemInfo Node), or from Truart's Node Library (ExtendedSpotInfo Node).

Maybe when it's finished it could be compiled for 64 bit. Until then I'll pay close attention to its development. Nice indeed!

Will this plugin work on a Mac UB?

Allabulle, Daforum, yes, Chris prefers to get the win32 version right before releasing it to other platforms!

Hmm, have we seen any indication what level of Pixel Filter functionality exists in LW.Next? The LW-native features that relied on it no longer appear to in LW.Next (we've been told hair and volumetrics both render as physical objects), so it doesn't appear to be a "given" that it exists in LW.Next's render engine.

regarding LW Next, no.

certainly hope though to see post effects / working DP npf & nif / tone mapping.

no guarantees.

Is there a node setup to get a Ambient Occulsion Pass for the entire scene like Tibe3_PixelNode?

ahh..the falloff setting was throwing me off but can't you send the amb pass to a specialized buffer instead of color, so you can do a one stop rendering and not setup multiple scene file

erikals

not as far as i know.

though might be possible.

By the way, check out each one of the other Chris' plugins:

All of them pretty ingenious and useful!
