Got a request today to check out what kind of image based search engines are out there. Didn't find any mentions of them here and thought many of you reference image hunters could find them useful so here:

Tineye - you provide a target by uploading from your hd or pasting a url.
http://tineye.com/

Pixolu - you search with a keyword, but refine your search by dragging favorites to an area http://www.pixolu.de/

The same people have also created a personal image sorter, which sorts your images by color or whatever and you can navigate over them freely like in Google maps/earth:
http://www.pixolution.de/Demo_en.html (bottom of page)

There are others, less cool I think.

http://www.bing.com/?scope=images

This one requires registration, haven't got the invitation yet: http://www.gazopa.com/

There was a phone number for that about 7-8 years ago...maybe longer...they probably use the same company. You'd call a number, hold the phone to the speaker and they'd send you a text, all automated. A friend used it in a pub once and we were all gobsmacked.
