View Full Version : Question About Zbrush Cavity Maps in LW...

I know there are alot of Zbrush users here, so I'm just wondering if anyone uses Zbrush cavity maps in their renders?
I know how to make cavity maps, just not really sure what they're supposed to be used for. ;)
What's the idea - layer them in with the textures? Use as bump? Occlusion?

...For whatever you need really. A Diffuse map, occlusion, etc.. You name it.

I like to use cavity for painting slightly darker colors and diffuse, myself.

I was thinking that cavity maps look alot like occlusion and was wondering how to use one to get that look of dust or dirt settling into cracks and crevices.
Would using it as a diffuse map accomplish that? I can't really test it out right now, just planning ahead here. :)

I use it in the Diffuse channel with a gradient. As geothefaust states .. you name it.

You could also use it as a mask to turn the color of the object a little browner or greener to simulate oxidation or dirt, etc.
