Howdy,

Can I get particles to emit from the polygons of a mesh, but only in certain areas that I specify with a texture map or a weight map? I gave it a whirl but nothing worked. I tried with and without calculating and used the "T" in the birth rate section.

any help would be very appreciated.

thx,

stephen

while I'm at it, is there a way to save emitted particles in position as a .lwo
basically I want to save the point cloud and edit it in modeler. can I do that?

I did exactly what you said you did in the birth rate area and it worked for me see: http://www.newtek.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=73613&stc=1&d=1242769822

An image in the Birth Rate texture should be applied as an alpha. Emit from Object Surface and Generate by Frame will maximize particle density.

use a Partigon emitter and save transformed

it's quite cool that it works with an animated avi as well (see attachment)

however, i only got to make it work with planar projection, UV didn't seem to work.
is this right?
