Wow. I NEED those weight painting tools. Seriously.

I was going to crack some joke about how they are always dicking over PC users, blah blah blah... But all of a sudden it's not so funny. :(

I'm going to email them about a PC port. That plugin is needed immediately. I suggest anyone else that is a PC user email them and ask them about a PC port as well. The more requests they get, the more likely they are to do it.

Here is his contact email: ruro2004 AT yahoo.co.jp

PS- I got it from the bottom of the page, no shady stuff.

I sent him an email in Japanese the best I could do with my limited Japanese (with a little help from a dictionary and translator, lol).

Hope he responds with a resounding yes.

Yeah, the BandSaw Ex is pretty cool. Kind of like the SwiftEdge Loop plugin but it's easy to put in loops a specified distance from an edge. Great for hard surface modeling.

yeah newtek should get him onboard for CORE

But isn't that what happened with the guy they hired who created IKBoost? Then things kind of fell apart. They let the guy go and never really understood the full scope of what he had added.

Of course a more straight forward tool like this would be easier for someone to comprehend.

Good for a change to beg for a PC version. So the old dog learns new tricks, eh.. Is that the first layout weighter plugin to appear? Might actually bother to rig something in LW now :). This should ease the pain of the CORE transition phase. Hope it gets the attention it deserves and encouragement for continued development!

You know, many laughed at Jonas when he drew a circle and got a box in the reveal video, but this is where that technology could end up, it's certainly where I was thinking it could.

So, in CORE, you never know!

His English is well, apparently I didn't have to attempt Japanese, lol.

Anyway, if one of our local porting residents (Looking at you Mike! :D) would contact him, maybe we could have this insanely powerful tool on windows. I'd love to get my hands on the weighting tools for layout.

How come his license is only mac. LW licenses are dual since version 8 or something? That's what came to my mind too, but I'm wondering if something got lost in the translation and he's meaning he doesn't have a PC so his lic. is only applicable to a mac.

geothefaust
05-12-2009, 10:12 AM
I thought it was something that was lost in translation too, but, he typed it in English and it read well.

It could be two things:

1- He doesn't know about the licensing structure
2- Lost in translation, maybe he means he doesn't have a PC to compile for Win

Well, LW licenses are not dual in Japan.

http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/switch-language/product/B001UFRP20/ref=dp_change_lang?ie=UTF8&language=en%5FJP

When we buy both, we must pay ...
1,100 dollars x 2 = 2,200 dollars!
A few years ago, 4,000 dollars!!

Well, I said I was just kidding, but it was a reference to the fact that we Mac users are always upset that the best plugins are not usually available for the UB version of LW.

Well good news folks. Ruro was nice enough to do something amazing for us PC users. He has temporarily obtained a PC license to develop his plugins for Win32. I wouldn't expect him to do a 64bit of course.

I don't see a paypal donate button anywhere on his site, but... I'm awaiting his response on whether he has a paypal account to donate to. Ladies and gentlemen, Ruro deserves a HUGE thank you. I urge you to at the very least send him an email that says "arigatoo gozaimasu!", "ありがとお ございます!” He would appreciate it no doubt.

Again, here is his email:
ruro2004 AT yahoo.co.jp

:)

Here is the email he sent me tonight:

Hello, LightWavers.

I obtained a development environment for PC temporarily.
Windows version plug-ins are now available to download.

I don't mean to sound ungrateful but a 64bit version would be a huge help, I haven't even installed 32bit since 9.6...although I'm tempted just to try these out.

I also sent him an email a few days ago (and I guess I got the same answer as everybody...the problem about the two licenses...)
I already installed them all and are really good. No crashes for now. What he was able to do with layout is awesome. Really amazing.

Thank you so much for this Ruro.

I' m loving the weight paint tool, it runs quite well on my computer with a character of about 8000 polygons at subdivision level 0 ( Athlon 64 3000 2 GHZ and geforce 6800 gt ).

What' s the performance like on a quad core ? I' m hoping to upgrade to one of those this year.

I installed all 4 plugins but I could only find the names of the weight paint tool and mesh edit tool in my plugin list. What names do I search for to find sketchmesh and bandsawex ? ( And yes, i tried those names already :)

zardoz
05-21-2009, 08:01 AM
but for those you have to search in modeler not layout
and the names are Sketch Mesh and BandSaw Ex

I think the paint weights tool is great! The only problem I found was that when you are painting your object the points on the back side of the mesh get painted. Anyone know of a way to prevent this?

geothefaust

When I check "No Depth" it shows the backside points but still paints through to them if I accidentally go over them from the front side. See attached screen grab.

According to the j-document, select the points on the front side, and you can exclude the points on the back side precisely.
