“First and foremost for us is to concentrate on Pixar legacy characters,” said Nasrabadi,

Hmmm, seems like a 'Disney-direct-to-DVD-crap' kinda studio, but being Pixar I hope they do a better job.

The Bay Area keeps getting more expensive for studios.

Portland, OR is a FINE place for anyone to move to... particularly large animation studios ;)

It makes some sense to start up a studio there since Vancouver is home to many large 3D/FX/Game studios like EA, Mainframe, Rainmaker among many others. There would be a large pool of experienced artists to hire from. I think Siggraph is supposed to be there in 2011. Nothing will lure me to the big city though except for Siggraph maybe. I am totally satisfied living right where I am and working where I am. Not that I would be good enough to work at Pixar anyway. :)

Very cool. Though with EA there, Rockstar, plus I believe the majority of VFX for Watchmen came out of Vancouver it is really becoming SF NORTH. Sadly I would need to spend about 700k for a house that is a bad thing. And yes Siggraph is there in 2011 I plan on going. I wanted to go this year because it is Orleans but just wasn't in the budget.
