Ok I just installed the Windows 7 RC 7100 on the other HD and I decided to try some quick tests and share it to you...

My specs:
AMD X2 64 bit 3800+
2 GB RAM
Geforce 9800 GTX+ 1 GB

I took 3 scenes:
microwave = folder lighting lw9 content
radiositybox = folder benchmark lw8 content
teapot = folder benchmark lw8 content

Windows 7 rc 7100 Lw 9.6 x64

microwave = 53.1
radiositybox = GI 23.2 render 57.7
teapot = 1 m 45 s

----------------------------------
Windows XP SP3 Lw 9.6 x32

microwave = 57
radiositybox = GI 23.4 render 59
teapot = 1 m 34 s

Results, Win7 win twice on three scenes. Well it's good cuz I tried some test with Vista vs XP and Vista always lost. I don't want Win7 be way faster but at least at the same speed of XP ;)

bye...

anyway I did the same test but with Vista and also if LW was 64 bit version against the 32 bit version in XP Vista loose. So cheer Win 7! ;)

Does Layout go to correct directory when you try to load objects, images or scenes ? For instance, if you want to load an object file open fialog pops up and it should already be in content/objects directory. Similar goes for scenes and images. This did not work in build 7000 but it worked in 6801 so I stayed with 6801. Could you please test if this works so I don't have to install 7100 if it doesn't. Thanks !

yeah works great in 7100 RC...really I'm getting excited using windows 7 instead of that crapy Vista. Vista has the same end of windows Millenium!

Microsoft think well to give Windows 7 free to use until next june, so in this way they can take back the people that leave Vista for another OS. So Windows 7 MUST to be good or Microsoft will loose again!

Back to Lw..hope to have soon the 6.5.1 release with some bug fixed. For example Fiber FX when you brush some hairs guide and get back, the hairs goes everywere and not in the way u brushed!..I hate it!

I tried the Win7 beta but I ended up tired of the "almost-there" feeling when installing or using software on it. So I went back to WinXP Pro x64. I don't think it's ok yet for production (being a beta) and I guess it's finally going to need the traditional pack of fixes (Service Pack) once it is launched until it's really ready. We'll see. I never used Vista, but Win7 didn't seem too fast, either. It should depend on what software you are using and the machine you are running it on.

The more disturbing thing about your post was to read your hopes on an upcoming 6.5.1 (sic) release [of LightWave, I assume]. Wow! :--)
