I have a volumetric light set up in a large room. The walls in the room are dark and the light is in the middle of the room, facing downward.

When I render the room I can see the detail on the back wall better through the volumetric lights, even though the light does not hit the wall.

Is this normal?

What type of floor material? Is it reflective? Radiosity on or off?

What's probably happening is that there are slight color/brightness differences on the wall, which is harder to detect by eye when it's dark. Once it's brightened the difference becomes obvious.
