View Full Version : QTVR software recommendations

I've been approached to produce some visuals for a commercial/residential development and would like to offer VR's as an alternative to full animation as I doubt that their budget will allow it. I haven't worked with VR's for years and wondered what others recommend for authoring them. I believe that we used VR Worx (http://www.vrtoolbox.com/store/store.html) in my old job but it doesn't appear to have been updated for ages.

Is LW's VR generator any good? I seem to remember problems getting the start frame to point in any direction other than straight up.

Hello biliousfrog,

Do you know Autopano Giga and its virtual tours creation tool Autopano Tour (http://www.autopano.net/en/photo-stitching-solutions/autopano-tour.html) ? I'm testing it since this afternoon to make architectural visit. And it seem very good.

Oh by the way, it's my first post here ! Hello everybody :)

Just use the advanced camera to output a spherical 360x180 degree panorama in a 2:1 aspect, like 5000x2500px.
It can be displayed directly with DevalVR plugin (great, but unfortunately only for Win).
Or using Java with ptViewer or PurePlayer.
Or be converted to Flash with Pano2VR, FlashPanoramaPlayer, krpano, panosalado or Immervisions PurePlayer starter toolkit.
The QTVR mov format is no longer in vogue, and is probably being phased out by most VR producers due to lack of support and development from Adobe. Not supported in Win 64bit afaik If youu insist on making QTVR files you could convert your LW output with Pano2QTVR, PTgui and probably others as well.

As far as I know VRWorks is still the best app on the mac. Even all of the great VRs on apples site are processed with it. But it does seem like people are not using QTVR as much these days. I seem to see more flash viewers around now.

I must admit, I've had trouble finding many QTVR's. I guess that Flash would be a good alternative considering that the plugin is also widely available and free.

I actually remembered the advanced camera this morning, it hit me as soon as I woke up which was quite strange....it would certainly make things easier than rendering a sequence of thin strips, it used to confuse the hell out of me.

I'll find out who's doing the website and see what they'd prefer.

Thanks guys...and Hi Thriddle!

Well Pano2VR does a nice job -> http://gardengnomesoftware.com/blog/

Another nice option is cubicconverter, i usually render out six cube faces and use cubic converter -> http://www.clickheredesign.com/cubicconverter/

Flash is a mixed bag, picture quality seems getting better with Flash10, but it is very processor hungry when viewing the movies compared to the original QTVR.

Here is a list of more software -> http://www.panoramas.dk/panorama/software.html
