Very impressive..cant wait to reinstall the apprentice version once my computer is back and running.

Some sweet fire and smoke tools in there.

They are improving the workflow friendlyness by creating shelfe tools with pyro presets containing complex node networks.
Way to go sidefx:thumbsup:
check the video here...

I havenīt checked the other goodie videos yet.

nice, looks just like FumeFX....

Man, that looks so tempting at $100... I won't have to worry about any commercial work using that for a long time. Just out of curiosity, how much does it cost to upgrade to commercial for it? Didn't see it after skimming the site quickly. I knew I had to get out of there before I was $100 deeper in debt...

Yes, but what are you missing with the Apprentice version???

Yes, but what are you missing with the Apprentice version???

my comp used for 3d is down for the moment, so I canīt really tell for sure,
but I think you will have all these tools inside of Apprentice, in fact most all tools as I have come to understand it, there is a small watermark in renders and a higher render resolution limit and some file sharing limits, but it seems to me that everything else is usable wich is great.

At least that was how the apprentice 9 series worked, not sure if they have changed that philosophy.

Yes, but what are you missing with the Apprentice version???

You get the full Master version of the software.

The restrictions; in Apprentice the sequence renders are limited to 720X576, stills are not restricted, and there is a watermark in one corner.
Apprentice HD, by the name the sequence renders are limited to HD res.
You can import FBX but not export.

For both, you get one render token.

The file format extension is changed to .hipnc, rather than the commercial .hip.
You can load a .hip file in an apprentice version and when you save it will become a .hipnc
You can load a .hipnc in a commercial version and that will switch the commercial license to an apprentice license, but not permanently. Next time you open the commercial version by itself it will be fine.

The commercial version is considerably more money than $100, but you get unlimited render tokens, exception support, distributed rendering and simulations, FBX export, etc.
There is a cut-down version called Escape, which doesn't have Particles or Dynamics in it, although you can load assets with those functions into Escape. There is a good deal of a production pipeline where particles and dynamics simply are required, thus the Escape version.

yep, the idea of the Escape version is that if you want to run a full studio based on Houdini, then only the FX TDīs will need a Master license, while the rest of the people (modelling, lighting, animation...) will be able to make all their work with Escape versions which are able to open, add stuff and render Master-created scenes with no problems at all (though obviously not modify those parts which only Master give access to). Considering the Escape versions are priced at 2,000$, this is no joke.

At home Iīm an HD Apprentice user (the 100$ version) and itīs quite unlimited on what you can do. The no using third party renders might be an issue...I wouldnīt be able to use Renderman if I wanted to...but I donīt. Geez, not going to buy a Renderman license anytime soon, you know. It is a pity not being able to use Mental Ray, which connects pretty nicely with Houdini as well. I doīt own any Mental Ray licenses, but one never knows...
Mantra is quite a beast though :)

Also upgrade policies are respected for the Apprentice edition meaning that for my HD version of H10 I paid 65$ instead of 99$
