Hi Everyone!

I am new to CG and Lightwave. I just starting learning the Layout portion of Lightwave and ran into the term "Baking" but I can"t fine a definition.
Can someone please explain what "Baking" is and how it used?
Thanks in advance for your help.

yeah, what he said.... but...

baking refers to any action where u take information generated by software and "bake" it down to an actual, fixed data set... much as u take ingredients and bake them into a cake, the original ingedients are still effectively there, but they're no longer separate...

So... if uve used a prcedural texture, it can be baked to an image map... if uve animated some stuff using motion modifiers, IK, etc... it can be baked to actual keyframes, either for items or vertex sets, etc, etc, etc... Sometimes, or in some places these types of operations are also referred to as caching, or freezing... but its all the same thing reli.
