I installed 9.2 I bought a year ago on vista x64, got a new license key from the site, and ran it. It keeps saying the license key wasn't found. :( It worked fine on my old laptop with xp sp2.

It's the license file for the 64 bit version?
Did you installed the 64 bit sentinel drivers?

Yes, but there were only windows xp x86, xp pro x64(which I chose), and mac in the option. Does it matter if I use xp x64 key on vista x64?

Do I need to download it separately? I installed whatever was included in lw9 x64 installer.

I think there are no x64 sentinel drivers?
Xp64 and vista64 are the same keys.

Did you add your key in lightwave:

Help > Enter License.... Paste your key there, or use the register tool in the start menu. You need to run layout first.........

No. iirc I didn't have to that in my old laptop... Anyway I tried what you said and got an error message:
Cannot open file C:/Program Files/NewTek/Lightwave 3D 9/Programs/license.key
Maybe I should reinstall the program?

not a bad idea. Or you can make a license.key file and put it there with your key code in it......should work

Reinstalled to no avail..:( It now says it's a temporary license key and I have 14 days remaining. Help->Enter License still doesn't work.

..Manualy make a License key file "License.key", with note pad, save it with a ".key" extension.

Example of key file..72128

Put it in the LW program root file.
Just the serial numbers nothing else..

Also be sure your file extensions are turned on in windows otherwise your license file will actually be license.key.txt instead of license.key. I have run into this a few times especially when putting Lightwave on a new installation of windows.

It worked! Thank you! But why did I have to go through all this? Any idea what the cause was?

Most likely it was the license key utility. I never use it anymore because of this problem. I always just create a license.key file manually and place the file into it's proper folder.

I learned the hard way, just like you did! :o It's a pain, but now you know for future reference. ;)

I hope NewTek will fix this someday.
