Don't know much about it but it looks pretty cool...

Does anyone know if it has anything to do with Ep.3 maybe?

Some decent f/x in there..but I dont care for that first person stuff..it just doesnt look natural..unless, of course, you suffer from tunnel vision.

I enjoyed that although it got a bit silly during the chase sequences...and some of the effects let it down a bit. I'm not sure whether it's supposed to look like a WIP or it is actually a WIP, probably some viral thing that's made to look like it's a fan film.

Wow, never been to that place in Holland, probably a final year production of some students.
Tthe rolling shutter is terrible at some points, so can't be a too expensive digital camera (i'm amazed though they managed to track that.)

I never saw that coke one... pretty cool... I really liked Sector 17. I hope they do another one too.

I saw a nice short a few years back that was filmed like a documentary, it was about aliens coming to earth as refugees and being treated as outcasts. There were some really nice shots of these aliens living on the streets and scavenging for food in a busy city with a big spaceship hovering overhead. There was a scene with one getting arrested in a Cops style...really excellent film, I'll have to try and find it again.

I found it - Alive in Joburg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ1vHRs_EOs

It's a shame that I can't find a better quality version

Apparently it has been used as the basis for Peter Jackson's District 9 due out later this year.

Sorry Jeffry, I'm hijacking your thread.

Speaking of Half-Life, does anyone have any inside info when EP 3 will be out?

Better yet, do any of you use Hammer? I haven't used it in a while, but I never had any problems before. But now it won't launch my mods - it just renders them and then gives me an error when trying to launch it in source, saying it can't find a .dll. It doesn't give me a name for this mystery DLL either. And the same thing happens with mods I know are OK.

I'm wondering if it was one of those recent Steam updates. There seem to have been several lately. I do have the latest Source SDK installed though. But some recent Steam updates kinda messed with HL2 some, so it makes me wonder.
Anyone?

I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread hijacking. ;)

I had a problem with l4d recently and when I updated my nVidia drivers the problem went away...

L4D the game, or L4D in the Source SDK?
I never bought Left 4 Dead, don't even know if it can be modded.
In any event, I'm pretty sure my Hammer/Source engine problem isn't related to the graphics drivers. I think it's a 64 bit "mode active" version confusion happening somewhere.

impressive short. for an amateur work, it really built up suspense. good craftsmanship. short of photoreal but probably 80% there. good solid tracking at the very least.

first person perspective was impressive feat to pull off too... if the camera wasn't actually strapped to his head (and the degree of control suggests to me that it might not have been) it must've been hellishly difficult to shoot.

Isn't L4D the game based on Source anyway?

Jackson is producing d9, Neill Blompkamp is Directing. (We're doing some of the effects).

Thanks for the clarification. It looks like a fun project to work on.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I'd be curious to see where they had the camera.
