Motion tracking is generally done in motion tracking software (matchmover, Boujou, Syntheyes etc) and then exported as a 3d scene. Alternatively, 2d tracks can be accomplished within After Effects.

I suppose i could cheat and set the camera up on tripod , then simulate camera bounce using after effects , but i would like to learn this technique for future reference !

I tried it, it is certainly worth looking at. I used the tutorial images for Syntheyes, but they need to be converted to tgas.

I'm using PFTrack regularly for my tracks and it has LW exporter. Does a pretty good job on its own. CS4 now has Mocha which essentially copy and paste tracking points into AE. Pretty cool!

Interesting to note that for the FishDog (http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/newsletter.php?pageNum_monthlynews=2&totalRows_monthlynews=5#fishdog) project Maurocor just rotoscoped (loaded the video as camera backdrop) rather than motion tracked.
