Those of you in Canada may have heard of the name-the-Doritos contest going on.

I was surprised to see so few animated entries, so when a script crossed my desk (actually, the Queen and John Second Cup) from Director Alex Shapcott I was immediately thrilled.

I took on the role of 3D character designer, animator, lighter and renderer. What better way to break in my recently downloaded 9.6.

Nothing too fancy, really. Old skool front projections, lovely area lights, some strategically placed glasses and things to pick up reflections ... but I really worked hard to get a nice shallow depth of field and the results were awesome.

Sadly, you're going to have to take my word for it because the guys at Doritos have accidentally flagged ours and a few others as 'private'. I suspect that should be fixed by Wednesday, but here are some stills to grab your attention.

Thanks to everyone who offered their suggestions regarding DOF, and thanks (again) to Paul Lord at ButterflyNetRender who helped me isolate an errant plugin (proximity) that was botching my render.

From concept to completion the project including a live-action shoot, was six days.

Here is the link to the spot on the Doritos site: http://tinyurl.com/d88qg3. (temporarily not working as of 3/17/09)

I heard about this contest too and was thinking about submitting an entry myself. Very cool animation you have there! One of the best entries I have seen yet. Good luck in the contest! :)
