I'm starting a ground up build and want to install windows pro 64.What does the OEM entail? I see there is a major price difference. And,any info on where to buy.

Also, technically, you are supposed to be a PC builder to qualify for OEM licenses, but I had no problem buying an activating an OEM Vista 64 license.

Other than updates,i've never used MS for any support issues,so OEM it is.Thanks for the replies.

It used to be you had to buy a piece of hardware at the same time as an OEM copy of windows. At Newegg you could buy some tiny little adapter that would allow you to connect a fan inside your case for like $4.99 with free shipping and they would sell you the OEM version. Now, I have bought OEM copies by themselves on numerous occasions. And like neverko said, who actually calls MS for support?

p.s. if you are in the states, buy from Newegg.

Also- OEM versions are tied to one motherboard.
If you rebuild it's harder to talk MS into reactivation.
