Hey know this probably sounds really geeky but if anyone has seen the show Avatar the last airbender, does anyone know how to achieve that look using full 3d? I know they use 2d drawing but does anyone know at least enough to get real close to that look with lightwave? Thanks

Its a combination of using one of several celshaders like Unreal and modeling techniques. You definatly have to model slightly different to take advantage of how edges work in LW.

Ya i figured the modeling would be a huge part but what is Unreal?

Unreal is a celshader image filter plugin.

Unreal is a shader plug-in for doing cel shaded (cartoon) renders. There are other NPR (Non Photo-real Rendering) shaders/plugins (Super Cell Shader and BESM or Big Eyes Small Mouth) come with Lightwave. Another plugin is Lovefish. The nice thing about Unreal is that it has inking capabilities that the others don't.

Check out CellShader's web site (http://www.celshader.com/learning.html)

Also, you can pick up Terrance Walker's Anime: Concept to Reality (http://www.amazon.com/Anime-Concept-Reality-Various/dp/B0000CABIZ/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top) pretty cheaply on Amazon.com. It may be helpful to you. (his website is http://studioartfx.com - I don't know if he's still using LW or not)
