Does anyone have that mushroom cloud example that used to ship with LW? I searched around, but all I found were posts and threads of people asking about where it is. Can anyone post it?

Will have a look tonight, I know I have Dean Scotts A-Bomb stuff, not sure if that is the one they ended up including. Gimme a couple of hours as I'm stuck at work at the mo'. :)

Any good A-bomb/mushroom cloud scene will do, I am training a few people and I want them (and me) to learn by picking apart a scene. I myself can always learn a new thing or two.

I believe..Mr Rid posted some of the old content fx scenes, and I believe thatīs the one youre after?

not sure wich thread he posted in thou..have to search.

otherwise..check the nuke threads..like the popit commercial..using a torus with hypervoxels volume attached to it and rotated..similar to the 24 Nuke but they used dynamite voxels on the top mushroom on to simple polygons..and hv for the stem on some points..I believe.

Aha..posted already..ok.

heres another old thread of nukes..about the popit commercial and perhaps
other useful links and tips..how to rotate a mushroom toroid etc..

1. Particles..and wind dynamics.
2. geometry and hypervoxels or dynamite.
3. or simple displaced geometry and animated procedurals.

those are the most obvious techniques I guess.

Hmm that scene posted by cagey arenīt the best one I believe..
using only nulls..

I believe the scene shrox might be after is the scene Demo_Atomic bomb
with dynamic winds and particles (no voxels preset) and it is located under the particles dynamics folder.

locate Mr Rids post he posted the older fx contents somwhere..
otherwise I could post the scenefile myself if that is propiate to do so?

I missed that one! I don't see any harm in posting an old scene file.

yeah that Tsar bomb..is mighty big...huh.

the scenfile Demo_Atomic bomb is pretty much a simple setup..
Thereīs something to learn from it perhaps, winds, particles etc..
but that scene moves way to fast.

When lookin at the real thing they are mostly very slow moving..

movie nukes seems slightly different..and comes in different flavors of more fast moving ones.

Looks like Cagey beat me to it. :)
The Dean Scott one is an old one and relies a lot on textures, meaning it wieghs in at some 580+ Mb :p

You get to use tactical nukes in World In Conflict? I haven't made it that far yet.

This one is really cool. I wouldn't swear this isn't CG.

Go from a real still pic, to bright light, unearthly looking stuff happening, to a flat blasted plane that doesn't look like it did at the start.

While I am thinking about it.... Wasn't there a plugin called Jolt that would give camera shake? Was that part of the LW install or was it third party?

I forgot this clip..from 24
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Axlfiv-QE1U&feature=related

the only one I could see with it on the web.

jarrod davis..did that one with hypervoxels on the stem..and the dynamite plugin..for the topmushroom..donīt know how he animated the rotating polys thou..but similar could be done with hypervoxels on letīs say a toroid geometry by selecting a ring curve on the toroids edges and create a spline curve from that and then convert to skelegons and convert to bones..that way you have a simple bone rigg to rotate with the blue bank handles in layout...then deform the geometry slightly with displacement maps..and add hypervoxels on the toroid.
Then its a matter of moving it up and rotate in a proper timing together with a voxel stem..and some glow at the mushroom top to follow either with volumetric lights or postglow

M for motion tab...add modifier jolt.

well that nuke is moving pretty good..some misses at the point were the stem isnīt sucked up properly..and the smoke at the bottom stays still to much I think..and some more gases or dust or just better backgrounds would be nice..but the movement is pretty good.

donīt know if he used maya or max?

how he used it on geometry.

one thing is what mostly kills the illusion in some of the cg nukes has a lot to do that you can recognize bad backgrounds or environments..or simply the time span isnīt believable.

Wow, some funky stuff being posted by folk here, I'm going to have to give fire and explosions a go after this and the recent fire thread.. not that I'll get anywhere with it.

Thanks to those who've shared stuff.

Thanks for the files all. It's actually a "regular" explosion I am having them do, but all booms still have that mushroom shape, even a firecracker can form a mini mushroom. Plus I might learn a thing or three myself from all this info.

This is from my LW 6.5 disk. Is this what you were looking for? Sorry I'm late with this, I didn't even check carefully to see if you got it already. DBMiller
