I need to make a camara flyby for the surface of a moon at hi-speed. Any tips to make it less labourous!?!

What kind of distance are you after?

Are you talking about flyby as in slingshot, i.e. low orbit and needing detailed maps for the surface, flying above the surface, and needing to model large amounts of lunar type landscape?

close to the surface, unfortunately lightwave doesnt support infinite plains

Maybe try this 'infinite landscape' tut:

if u create a plane 1Mm * 1Mm then after u load it into layout hit d and set the grid size back to 1 and its just like having an infinate plate.
Mm = Million Miles.

Well, if you use photoshop fractal clouds as a displacement map, and use an image size thats a multiple of 512 on each side, it will actualy tile...

This will obviously be fractal mountain type stuff instead of craters...

If you want a seriously big and detailed crater map, why not use Mars? The southern hemisphere is heavily cratered, and should do very nicely.

I do not have the URL to hand, but the MOLA site (mars orbiting laser altimeter) has very detailed elevation maps indeed.

You should also be able to find many Viking based DEM files of Mars, which can be converted into LW objects with the wonderful and free DEMSCAPE.

Cheers,
Nick
