Not sure what software this is -- looks like XSI, but can't be sure -- still very cool!

Didn't see anything that can't be done in Lightwave though.

Excellent video just the same. Loved the consumption math towards the end...
oh man... I think a lot of us should own stock in the caffeine industry, for sure.

First part (modeling that building) is MODO but setting up buildings (1200 of them) and cars is done in Lightwave (layout) so i presume it's also rendered in LW 'coz otherwise there wouldn't be point of loading all those objects in layout if it's otherwise :D :D.

maybe some HDI in there?

What for? It's 1200 different buildings... Not one cloned...

Great video, I remember byhook posting it on spinquad some time ago. Does anybody know the music? I tried to browse some tunes of broken social scene and animal collective, but I weren't able to find it on hypem.com.

Good news sadkkf. Aside from the modeling shown in Modo, everything was created with Lightwave.

There's a thread in the finished gallery (http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95158) that goes into more detail.

Cheers,
Hook

yeh, modo and lightwave viewports are pretty obvious. maybe some HDI in there?

The lighting was really simplistic. 1 DP infinite light and 7 bounces of Final Gatherer.

Thanks to Denis for his awesome plugins btw.

Cool video! I thought the timelapsed modeling and setup was really fun to watch. I'm curious, how did you record this?

I find it incredible that with 1200 buildings that there are only 7 million polygons. I don't know if the cars and other details are included in that number.

That number includes everything. The actual break down was something like:

Cars - 2.36 Million Polys
Trees and Other Street Stuff - 0.89 Million Polys
Buildings - 3.75 Million Polys

Taking the time to model buildings from scratch and really optimizing every element resulted in a pretty efficient scene. Spheres for trees helped as well.

Yeah, really well done! Are the vehicles also modeled from scratch?
