I like these colorful little images. How big is this DS anyway? Is it a pocket console?
Can you make flipbook style anims as well with it? I want a DS too.

roughly a 2 inch x 3 inch screen. Colors! is more of a painting program than animation.

Those paintings are beautiful! Please keep them coming.

I'm a Colors! user too but haven't posted anything new here in a while. I really need to get back on the ball. :)

The DS is a pocket gaming console by Nintendo. The cool thing is that, if you get a microSD card adapter, the DS is easily and non-destructively 'hackable'. I use one called the R4, but there are many versions of this product. Note that you should get a DS Lite; I'm reading that the newer DSi isn't compatible with existing adapters, and the DS Lite is nicer to use than earlier models.

Colors! is a free 'homebrew' paint program that runs on the adapter. It's pretty simple as far as paint programs go but it uses the DS' pressure sensitivity and is quite capable. The main advantage, of course, is that it's completely portable--I carry mine almost everywhere I go.

BTW, the resolution of the images is fairly low (I think 540 pixels) but there is a Java applet that lets you 'replay' your session at much higher resolutions. Its native format is .png, but you can also output an uncompressed movie file using the Java applet.

Go here for more info:

Colors! is also available for the iPhone and iTouch but those devices don't have pressure sensitivity. Still, that hasn't stopped some artists from doing amazing work on those devices too.

I think most of the guys here have already seen this but I did a comic strip about Colors! and the DS Lite, and used these tools to make it. You can read it here:

Wow....I love the yellow dragons head.

I'd like to add also, three of our content department got the paint program for our DS. Yep, we thought it rather fun. Greenlaw's thread got us hooked!

Thanks for the info guys, I'm so behind technology. The only thing I care of is my computer.
