Acer has some decent 22" monitors in that price range: LINKY (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=acer+22%22&x=0&y=0).
Decent quality Acer is, although I don't believe what you might call "pro" calibrated. Nevertheless, I have four of them (two 22" and two 24"), and haven't had any problems at all with any of them, except Vista doesn't seem to like the Acer drivers. They work just fine with the Windows drivers though.

I have two Acer 22" monitors. They are awesome and work well. You can order them from Newegg for about 170 bucks each, and they work wondrously.

I have a Dell 22" Widescreen that I got last year for around $225. It's great and I've had no problems. I've seen some of the Dell 24" widescreens here at work and they are amazing, but I can't afford one for home. :)

I have an Acer x243w 24 inch screen as well as a 22 inch model. I believe they come with a 3 year warranty. If you can afford it, go with a 24 inch screen. They are much more comfortable to work with particularly when using Lightwave. It is on sale at Office Depot for $249 and I think that comes with free shipping. I was told by two different sales reps at my local Micro Center that Acer uses the same screen as the Samsung brand.
