You can use the embed code on YouTube's site to make a BB code so users can display YouTube movies inside of their posts:

Admin CP -> Custom BB Codes -> Add New BB Code

Title - YouTube
Tag - youtube
Replacement:

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/{param}"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/{param}" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Example - JFwCCL0Vh6U

Description - Use the movie code from the YouTube URL in your browser. For example, http://youtube.com/watch?v=JFwCCL0Vh6U

Thats funny. Yeah I think it would be a good thing to allow embed tags for you tube and flash. Just more options to make a point if necessary.

lol .. yeah, I always got so much crap for that one. :)

I loaded it up the other day and it looked wrong on the new forum background. I can probably reproduce it on a grey background sometime.

Yeah but You Tube quality sucks. At least the QT movies are downloadable and usually decent quality. Not usually good enough streaming to play in a browser though.
I used to thoroughly detest QT, now I love it. Go figure.

bumping as jim c's original request didn't get a really complete answer.

vbulletin has a ton of advanced embed codes:

but also

vimeo
blip.tv
dailymotion
googlevideo
hulu
veoh

and alot more. and it's not necessarily garish either:

so 'how' do you embed a video then??

Matt

Currently, you can't, only link to one.

Please no.
Clicking on a link is easy enough.

clicking the video in a thread would be easier!

MooseDog

for a community dedicated to an animation software, this seems imho a natural. it would be a great little perk on behalf of newtek, saves bouncing around to different websites, and helps build/reinforce their community. all imho.

who doesnt want to see a video about $1 Nokia R4008's haha it really doesnt matter to me, i only ever post stills of models so i will remain unopinionated <-- someone might want to check to see if thats a word or not

Silkrooster

Well the thing is you don't see the video until you click on it. So reading a thread from a spammer wouldn't force you to see the video, but on the other hand some of the members here (won't mention any names) have made us think we were about to see something neat and clicking the link we say something totally different and some weren't all that appropriate.
Both the link and the inline video can be abused but so far thats rare. The only difference is one you see here the other you see at youtube. Both in both cases you do have to click on it to see it.

If anybody wants to see how the in line video works for youtube it is enabled at both spinquad.com and silkrooster.com in their respective forums.

necro-bumping :D

congrats to the owner of the spinquad forums for enabling the embed code for offsite videos:

http://www.spinquad.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26414

and for recognizing that such embedding does not! add to one's bandwidth for, afaik, the video is delivered directly from the content's network to your computer.

attractive and useful imho.

mr. newtek?

Another vBulletin site I frequent, just did an upgrade and you don't even have to put any code in, it just does it automatically.

If you just put a link this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEIn4uyEySA

It automatically embeds it, and even cooler than that is that it also does it for Vimeo, Live link and several other video sites.
Simply post a link and it embeds for you.
You can even embed the HD version if you want.

I believe anyone who for some reason is against this luxury, has just simply never participated in a forum that allows it.

Once you experience the ease of reading and flow it creates within threads, you never want to go back to phumpering around with outside links again.

Well, I'm not sure. I clicked on the "embedded video" even though it looked completely off topic and pretty freaking boring. So I'm afraid I might have some strange mental condition that makes me click the play button of every embedded video I find.

veimo is clearer and better Q , would rather preffer that instead of YT , there are other ways around the php code (",)
