What a touching story, very original idea, and I love the tools used in the building of the world, very cool!

Do we know if this was all LightWave?

Thank you William, a lovely find, poignant, well done, both in concept, visual and construction. What could have been "just" so many effects in someone else's hands, are here, held together, by concept and story. This is most appreciated. I miss this aspect too often in current productions, so it is great to see it when someone takes the time and has the clarity of vision to produce works like this. Thanks again.

Wonderful, I'd love to see a making of... Was it all done in LW? Was LW Cad used? Really great art direction, did he use LW animated GI, renderer. I hope their site goes up soon, give us more! Newtek shoud update the LW page with a link to this.

Great find!

Is this the new Core UI?

>>Is this the new Core UI?

I think it's true. It's new holo-theme ui's scheme. ;)
Remember modeling of future objects as it's silhouettes by pen/mouse in viewport(tech.core-video)

Very nice project. What's with the end titles though?

.....it's kind of stylish.....but.....clever-clogs titles and end-credits, especially when the 'cleverness' defeats its own purpose, just detract from the film.....

There really shouldn't be a discussion about the end credits, which kind of proves it didn't quite work.

Beautiful film. Proves once again that a good story is key. It started out looking like a fantasy tech preview, but the story came blasting in at the end and really made me feel it.

I loved how he got wrapped up in one detail and lost track of time, but that one detail turned out to be so important. It was a clear shout-out to us folks.

P.S. I imagine that UI is going to be a bit of a resource hog.

You get the sense that i7's are long dead history to these characters ..... :D

Mind you, with the flower in the vase at the end, by her bed, I started to wonder if he was in a virtual world as well.....in your mind, modelling like that wouldn't be a problem.

I love the number of her room is '2048'.

I've been emailing the link out to friends - it's an incredibly haunting little story.

Looks okay, as far as i can tell from the blur fest that Youtube made of it.
I have the faint feeling i have seen this concept a couple of times before.

And am i the only one who thought it took just too long, i think it could have been told in half the time.

Still, nice short.

Running time is ok, it gives the feeling things took time, time she deserved.

I wasn't so bothered about the length - you could easily cut down alot of films and still tell the story.....:D

I couldn't name them off-hand, but as with alot of things like this, if you read enough SF, etc., short stories old and new, you come across these kinds of things often, and frequently packing more of a punch than this.

But it's still a nice use of the concept.

I was going to ask the same thing. What's with the end titles.

Besides end titles the movie's awesome.

The end titles are down to the conversion from QuickTime to YouTube. If you watch the High Quality one that's up there now the titles work just fine.

hmm, now that's how 3D modeling should be! :D

Got that right.
Can you imagine taking something like a game engine and crossing it with a highly capable 3D package? Interacting in a 1st and/or 3rd person view with tools in the way you'd interact with objects and tools or weapons in a game? To be able to "walk" among your creations and sculpt them at their level? And being able to save out actual models and renders?

Yeah, I'm glad I watched it again. The first time I watched it, the end credits just flashed on the screen for a second or two at a time. This time I saw the roll, much better.

Another thing they could do is just invite Branit at 2009 Siggraph...
