View Full Version : Pivot Point and bones

Hi there.
I have a basic humanoid model. I have created a bone structure in layout. All bones are children of the main pelvic bone.
I have null objects at the end of each arm.

My problem is that I donít quite get the whole pivot point thing.
When I move the null for an arm forward and back in a walking motion it works fine but when I pull the null out and away from the body the arm bends at the elbow. The best explanation I can think of for this motion is that it looks like the character is reaching for a non-existent sidearm.
I expected the arm to follow the null out and away from the body in a kind of star jump fashion.

I think this is to do with the pivot points of the bones but im still quite green and im not sure.

If someone could give me a brief explanation of pivot points and how they work in this context I would be most grateful. Please donít post telling me to look at the manual, the reason I am asking here is that the manual is rubbish.
