View Full Version : What is a User Interface job?

So when looking for work I see a lot of user interface jobs.

I know what a user interface is (the game menu screen right?) but can someone tell me what this job usually entails. Do they need someone to program as well as create the artwork/ visual screen or is it usually just the work.

What kind of programs do they use, how do they go about it?

I think it could be a fun job but don't know about how to train myself/ etc.

How do I become suitable for the jobs?

I will be looking at the job postings for more info, but if anyone has had this kind of job before, more info would be great!

I've actually been wondering the same thing lately. I've been googling things like "User interface portfolio", "UI designer portfolio" etc. and most everyone who calls themselves a UI designer has done a bunch of websites and not much actual application UI work it seems.

As for programs, as far as I can tell, usually, Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash (so you can make semi functional mockups)
