I'm working on a small project where the rail extrude function is very usefull, but is there a way to use automatic "segmentation" and still get the UV's proportional to the geometry?

It's quite painful to manually delete all the unnecessary polygons...

I've always liked setting the segmentation manually because it made recreating the rail with the same seg count easy along a straight path to get the UV. You could try UV spider. I believe Splinegod made mention of it a while back.

Thanks for the tip, another solution that might be simpler for me, would be if there is a tool to automatically adjust an UV texture, to make it proportional to the polygon sizes... Are there any tools like this?

Have you looked into the PLG UV tools? How are you UV mapping your object now?

Now, I let the rail extrude build the UV, and I use the strech function to make the UV a small tile for the object (i'm building roads and airport taxiways)...

I will look into the UV plugins you linked...
