View Full Version : Surround audio for animation

I know this forum is mostly about animation but I need an opinion from someone who is familiar with the entire production process for animation.

My point is: should I invest in a M-S microphone or should I invest in two separate good microphones for A-B type stereo recording?

I already have a solution for capturing the voice actor.

For foley (in the field) a single mic would do the job - the extra Side channel could be used now and then. Besides that a single tube is easier to handle.

How about surround recordings with a M-S setup? Would you ever use it in the 5.1 mix for your animation or would you use mono signals to fake surround recordings or A-B type recordings?
