I am doing a project that will consist of large army scenes with hundreds of guys. Just like the rome total war games. This will be my first time creating scenes like this. The computer I am using cannot take alot of polygons. So I need to keep everything low poly.

I know of HD instance but I want to see if I can do the same things without it. I need a way to randomize all of the movements of the troopers when they are marching in formation.

Hmm Perhaps with one of those Boxx Apexx things with 128GB of RAM?

for lo poly crowd scenes you can use a lo poly character animated with morphs rather than bones then use a particle system that runs along the ground...each partile can be swapped out for a morph animatred character.
