I hope this is the right place post this.....
In a local book store a book titled "DIGITAL FANTASY PAINTING"
by Michael Burns, features the works of some 35 artists using
software programs, Photoshop, Poser, 3D Studio Max, Maya, and
of course Lightwave. This book I feel s not all that informative
for the beginner, and the intermediate level user could figure
out most of it for less money, and do not bother a professional
with it.
However it does show Lightwave (in my opinion) to be better
than a middle class 3D program. Dmitry Savinoff has work in this
book that to me looks better than the stuff other artists created
using Max, Poser, and Photoshop. This book is great to look at
but don't count on it being informative in the programs. Serious
work reduced to 5 steps, with little on how, just what it does.
This book or the idea behind this book has serious potential,
I would love a book like this with actual step by step, and narrowed to Lightwave, Photoshop, and maybe throw some
After Effects, and Digital Fusion. Even 5 to 6 Chapters of a project
each would be worth the $25 the book costs.
All in all the artists who were all very good, got to display some
great work, and I ended up with a good coffee table book with
some inspiration, just not enough information.
Writing and setting up a book is not easy, but a book should
be informative, enlightening, and down right good to read.
