Is there anything better than monkeys playing instruments? :D

And .. any idea what those boost tools do? Looks like they add handles etc?

They do add handles with a mouse click. You can grab the node and make it IK, FK, lock channels , add dynamics etc on the fly. The nodes are seen in the graph editor and by expressions and modifiers. Its very powerful. :)

Kick arse! Much easier! .. so ... Do I win a prize? :p

Are those white dots meant to be an onion skin sort of thing?

Why is it that every bone with Dynamics on, have a keyframe for every frame?
Is it baked for faster playback? Or this is the normal way dynamics work on bones? Meaning, creating allways keyframes on every frame as the simulation calculates...
I'd hate to go and edit the motion later in every keyframe for tweaking or trying to clean up bazilions of frames in a large scale dynamic simulation...
Those motions are baked, right? Right? I hope this whole new dynamic system work in a linear fashion, cause baking is not allways good and i wouldn't like to have a random simulation every time i playback or render a scene...

wow! if i wasn't already tweaked enough for not getting to go! those are awesome, there is sooo much new drool factor stuff in 8 i can't wait!

Gregg "T.Rex" Also, you bake keys to lock IK'd feet/hands to the floor/wall/whatever... Proton has said he needs to post a movie to explain it, but from what I saw on the Siggraph movies and the screenshot of the anime girl climbing, it is just that - baking keys so there is a key on every single frame. So forget about editing the motion later. Don't quote me on that - I may have the completely wrong end of the stick - that's just how I understand it at this point :) I hope I have got it wrong, because having to bake keys to stick an IK foot to the floor seems really backwards to me. :)

Well, yes... I also saw the Siggraph movies and heard William talking about baking for locking things down. I used to do that in LW5.6! That's the reason i asked this at first place...
.
Com' on, William....
.
Clear things up for us, will ya?

.
Please?...

Sorry to bring up this again, but...

With the colour coding for the buttons gone it seems to be really harder to orientate in the GUI. Although better than the first previews, the new interface in this screenshots still looks rather dated than fresh, compared to 7.x. The beveled 3D look reminds me of LW 5.5/5.6... 7.x was way more stylish and functional.

NewTek, pleeeeeease don't forget the option "7.x look" in the display panel!

Maybe I'm nitpicking here, but it would really bother me looking at this interface each day and always thinking "Darn, just why did they try to fix something not broken!?"

I'd suggest to go back to 7.x all the way GUIwise, only with a slightly different default colour scheme (and the brushed steel could also well be left out, the button gradients, however, weren't that bad as they were - the remains in the motionmixer window on pic 4 are a true boon to the eye in this environment). I hate to suggest something which makes some effort of NewTekizens wasted, but I would definitely hate it much more being stuck with an interface like the one on these screenshots.

Especially as otherwise LW8 seems to be just great!

I never even notice or use the the color coding on the buttons. Might as well all be the same color to me.

I also could not say which button has which colour if you ask me, but on a subconcious level at least, it helps the eye to orient. With different colours it is just less of a homogenous boring greyish clutter stack of buttons.

Btw, the button group titles now look like small buttons themselves on the first sight, this also was better before, geez, just about everything! It's not just a matter of taste, it can be pointed out in an objective way how every little tiny detail changed changed to the worse. Just a little worse, but still worse, not better, and altogether - well, I still ask myself heck why.

Don't panic... the interface is not the final one...

But I would say that the subtle differences in color GREATLY HELP.
This color scheme would slow me down... even with all the shortcuts that I use.
