If you use 'Lightwave 3D' instead of 'Newtek Lightwave 3D' you get results for LW. Which have a bad look.

holy ****! people dont use 3D! No one types in Lightwave 3D

just do a search for Lightwave and you will be shocked :)

take a look at relative links too, they seem to be correctly targeting mostly Lightwave related things. ( i know Lightwave can also mean the real thing but usually its written Light Wave)

here is a search result that uses most likely search phrases for the software involved (note that Maya is a wild card because there are lots of hits for the civilization)

http://www.google.com/trends?q=LightWave%2C+Modo%2C++XSI%2C+3D+Studio+Ma x%2CAutodesk+Maya%2CCinema+4D&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

more telling. here are search comparisons for the respective companies. of course autodesk rules

hahaha,

that trends thing is fun! "donkey punch" had surprising results....

this may be more telling of a graph though:

1. http://www.google.com/trends?q=lightwave+3d%2C+autodesk+maya&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

then this:

2. http://www.google.com/trends?q=lightwave+3d%2C+autodesk+maya%2C+softimag e&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

the THIS:

3. http://www.google.com/trends?q=lightwave+3d%2C+autodesk+maya%2C+softimag e%2C+3ds+max&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

lol....

and finally this:

http://www.google.com/trends?q=lightwave+3d%2C+autodesk+maya%2C+softimag e%2C+3ds+max%2C+photoshop&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

jin

p.s. and this explains maya's lack of popularity in those graphs circa 2004:

http://www.google.com/trends?q=lightwave+3d%2C+autodesk+maya%2C+alias+ma ya&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

actually, considering there's an orders of magnitude difference between newtek and the rest, i think they've held their own well over the years.

but it does look like it's in a decline.

here's something that should rightfully keep the lightwave devs up at night:

http://www.google.com/trends?q=lightwave+3d%2C+blender+3d&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

jin

p.s. what the hell is up with malaysia and kuala lumpur and lw?!

Modo, maya are not accurate words for the software. They mean different things in different languages.

Placing the word "3d" next to all search terms gives perhaps, the best chart:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=lightwave+3d%2C+modo+3d%2C+cinema4d%2C+ma ya+3d%2C+blender+3d&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=1

Which shows that *ALL* 3d software has been on a decline, EXCEPT Blender.

i disagree. lightwave is known as lightwave 3d but autodesk maya and alias maya are more likely to be used that maya 3d.

also, do a search of modo. first thing that comes is luxology. NOBODY calls it modo 3d. so i think the results for that skew too low in your results.

just like you didn't put in "cinema4d 3d"... : )
