There's loads and loads.

But one really neet one is the PLG UV tools collection.

Search at these two sites to find plugins:

http://www.flay.com
http://www.lwplugindb.com/

cheers

edit
also, Dennis Pontonnier writes some of the coolest plugins for the latest LW versions: http://pagesperso-orange.fr/dpont/main_en.htm
And offcourse there's the plugins TrueArt writes : http://www.trueart.pl/?URIType=Directory&URI=Products/Plug-Ins
Oh, and Fujio Ichikawa does some really cool tools, search for FI on flay or the lwplugindb.

I probably forgot some, other will chime those in.

A lot depends on what you're doing in LightWave, as there are some 'must haves' for various things, nearly all of them free too!

FPrime (http://www.worley.com/) and LWCAD (http://www.wtools3d.com/) are two commercial ones that are VERY worthwhile. Although it has to be said, FPrime needs an update to keep up with the latest features in LightWave 9.5.

X-Dof (though doesn't work well with new cameras), HD Instance (though can't do some of the nodal shaders) and DPonts nodes (free)

This is where we need a decent repository for plugins, yes we have Flay, but it doesn't have things like a user rating system to help weed out the wheat from the chaff!

A site with all the _essential_ plugins as voted for by users would be great!

Mike Wolf had a nice idea on this.

I wonder if they could add ratings to the LW Plugin database (http://www.lwplugindb.com/Search.aspx)?

And it would be nice if there were just different categories too, rather than searching.

hey,

a great resource showing here...

a rating system with categories would be good also...

theres a lot of plugins out there... do we really need em all...?

or can some things be done without the use of a plugin in LW..

In my opinion there are only two ways to rate a plug in: Useful and Useless

I'll investigate adding a rating system, I assume 1-5 stars (and zero for the non rated) would be fine?

When you say categories, would that be the same as the plugin's class? As seen here:
http://www.lwplugindb.com/Search.aspx?Adv=1

Because I can easily create a page that has those Classes as click-able links which would then return the plugins in that class. Maybe I should rename Class to Category since it's the LW plugin programmer in me that used the proper term of Class in the first place.

How many stars would the Useless plugins get? :D

Some plugins are useful for some people while being useless to others...

Exactly. The poster did not even mention what he will be using LW for ...

You'd rather want a rating system that describes stability and reliability of the plugin combined with the amount of downloads and update frequencies (a bit like the Sourceforge rating system with some added features)

I've added a Categories page to LWPluginDB:
http://www.lwplugindb.com/Search.aspx?Cat=0

I also made the class text on each plugin's entry into links which will show other plugins of that class. As with the other searches, there is an RSS feed for each Category list.

I'm still in the design stage for a rating system.

I am primarily a FCP and and after effects user, working mostly in sports on limited budgets and fast turnaround.
At best i would be described as an amateur LW hobbeyist, enviously looking on at the amazing things people create in these galleries.
Occasionaly with a bit of breathing space i might be able to sneak in some 3d text or logo, or a basic scene, or camera move, but thats about it.
When people complain about some CA function in LW, or how IKBoost doesnt work right, it sails high above my head.
I tell you this, just to emphasise that I am a LW outsider really.

But what amazes me most, and the reason I always come back to these boards, and even the reason I come back to LW when I am fed up and have decided that I simply am too old or stupid to really grasp 3D, is the effort you guys all put in to creating an application that far exceeds what even Newtek could with all the will in the world be expected to lay down in bullet points on the side of the LW Box!
Free plugins
LScripts
Tutorials
Easy to use resource databases
Presets
1 to 1 help and support
Models and scene files
Professional LW users who will help tweak and optimize your work!!!

I could go on...but you get the point.

And in case you dont...this kind of community simply does not happen with any other application I have ever used!!
Up until a few years ago I paid a tidy sum each year to the maunfacturer of my then NLE just so they would accept a phone call from me, and I have probably had more help from one post on here than hours of calls to the "did you try rebooting' technicians at said company!

Anyhoos, just a quick email as I felt I needed to acknowledge the simple line...

'I'm still in the design stage for a rating system.'
wonderful.

I wanīt loads of plugins for the 64 bit OS.

The 64 bit solution is so much faster than anything I ever tried earlier when talking of LW. I run it with 8 GB RAM which was impossible with 32 bit solutions... while they are limited to 3GB RAM. At least on a PC, donīt know much about MAC and will not even think about it though I have too many softwares already licensed for the PC environment and donīt think itīs realistic from a financial point of view to change. At least not for me!

But since the 64 bit solutuin is so much faster I am surprised that some plug in developers donīt add 64 bit versions of their plugins as well. 64 bit must be the future. Just think of when the memory solutions up till 128 GB RAM is affordable enough to invest in.

Any one knows about which plugs that are available for 64 bit?

Both Flay and the LW Plug in database have the ability to search for Plug ins in 64 bit

Hi Jess!

I noticed that already but thanks anyway...

I also noticed that not a few of the plugin creators seems to avoid the 64 bit version of the plug... hmmm... isnīt this a bit backwards?

First I thought the expression "size matters" was fundamental, (in the old days when computers where big and ugly). Then I came to the conclusion that speed was the thing, (quite lately when RAM and cache and broad band increased each mans use of a PC). After a while the question of technique became crucial, (when you had to buy a new computer every sixth month to keep up with your competitors).

Nowadays I am totally satisfied with feelings only. But the feeling right now is spelled "confusion"!

Yeah, but negative stars at least gives you the option to be more expressive. Like a plugin that doesn't just not work, it also wrecked your install of LW.....sometimes no stars just isn't enough to say what you really think :D

Last night I uploaded the code for a simple rating system for the LWPluginDB (http://www.lwplugindb.com/).

Simple, because it's only a single rating in 0-4 stars. But I built the system with future improvements in mind, it just depends on how this system works out (and how much free time I have).

For now the rating of plugins is open to everyone, whether you have an account or not. I implemented a couple anti over-voting techniques, so abuse shouldn't be a problem (fingers crossed).

The code that figures the rating based on the votes will probably get some fine tuning once I have enough votes to get an accurate global average.

I just noticed the new rating system today. Nice addition.
