Hi all,

Can you stick a VTx 32bit PCI card onto a 64bit PCI-X slot?

Will the VTx run properly i that 64bit PCI-X slot?

Yes, but be aware that it will slow the 64 bit bus down which will impact any 64 bit cards you may have plugged in.

IF your VT card is an old VT card it will drop the PCI-X bus to 33MHz, but if it is a VT[4] or newer card, it will run at 66MHz in a PCI-X slot.

Granted, if you have a newer motherboard that has PCI-X, those slots could be 100MHz or 133MHz, but for older dual-Xeons that a lot of people have/had, 66MHz was the top speed anyway.

thanks,

I'll be leaving the current configuration alone since its the optimum for the mobo i have.

- XP Pro sp3

- scsi 64/133 card in PCI-X 64/66 slot. (video drives)

- onboard IDE bus (DVDrw, storage, cache and system drives)

- VT3 32bit card in PCI 32/33 slot.

- VT3 preferences set according to VT manual and hardware configuration.

The system is very stable - even CG! Having PCI and CPU bandwidth in Preferences set wrong will create record, playback problems and make the CG unstable.
