I know this has probably been asked a few times before but I'm thinking of upgrading graphics card(s) and would be interested in any new/updated views.

I'm currently running 2x 512mb Geforce 8600GT in SLI, is it worth getting one 512 8800GTS in terms of performance (I very rarely run more than one monitor/output)?

Sorry again for the 'what hardware is good' thread, I'm waiting on a client to email materials for a job and I'm bored...

do a quick search for "geforce" and you are bound to come up with lots of older threads that discuss this at length.
I would say the short answer to your answer would be "no". Not much to be gained by that switch I would say...

When I upgraded to the GeForce 8800, Lightwave became unstable even after 3 new driver releases. I don't know if it was the card that did it, but I haven't seen any performance increase from the GTS180 (I think) that I used to run... except on games ;-)

You probably know this already but SLI has no benefit outside of games that are designed to use it.

A Quadro will help with graphics apps. Many people confuse them for geforce's with higher price tags but I've found mine (only an FX1500) to be much faster than similar spec'd geforce's.
