Hi everyone,

I'm learning the node editor in lightwave right now and trying my hands on creating the Canadian Flag with only nodes. No image maps or projections. Here is a render of my result. Its not much to look at, but just thought I share. Before I post the node tree, I figure it might be fun if someone new to nodes want to try to tackle this. Thx.

Learning??? I'd say you've mastered it already. I can only imagine how complex the nodegraph for this would be, well done!

Holy Crap that's cool!

Looks like your trying to dethrone James here :P

Well done!

I dont know.... I think there is a hidden message in that flag that screams "Hey James...watch your butt!" :)

all joking aside...killer work!

I would definitely like to see the node tree for that one. Where can I find the maple leaf node in Lightwave? ;) :D

Impressive work!

Awesome! I'd love to see the node setup.

Now we just need someone to do the US flag and the Brazilian flag.

I call Libya! :D

Any signs of nodes setup.

Really, I'm not interested how you made the maple leaf, I'm iinterested how you made those red stripes :D

All nodes? Were you born reading a 3D mag? LOL That's incredible. That's almost like building a computer out of rocks and sticks. Very talented and amazing.

When I was making my Union Jack, I used Grid2d for the stripes.

Looks like our new node guru has left us high and dry...

Check.

Here is the sample of canadian flag, based on nodes.
It was done with help of excellent tools by Denis Pontonnier:
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/dpont/plugins/nodes/Additionnal_Nodes_2.html (a faster method I think)

Insane! Nicely done...wow amazing.

Thanks Larry. :)

I know that this work is completely useless, but it showing how powerful node system is. (and that is only beginning!) A combo of linear and non-linear (everywhere!) systems in the future LW is the key to success. And the key to grab more "high-end" users.

Sorry guys, it looks like I was asked to write a short article about my node setup. When it goes up, I'll let everyone know about it. Sorry for any inconvenience.

In matter of the amount of learning - useful, very.
That was my main goal.

Ouch, that hurts my head.

Don`t request a linear (layered) version of that nodes tree/final effect. ;)

I can't wait to show you guys my setup. Main difference between mine and mojotribe is that i'm using the default nodes that comes with lightwave. I do have fewer nodes in my setup, but nothing substantial. I'm sure there are many ways to pull it off. If anyone else wants to tackle it, it would be a good way to learn more about nodes. Thanks Mojotribe for showing your tree.

Thanks thomascheng for your words.
I hope that this thread will help the community, like many others on the Newtek forums.

Hi guys, the article explaining how this flag was created will be in an upcoming issue of HDRI Magazine. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly sure which issue yet :(

That was one of the most amazing thing ive ever seen.. Not in a artistic way, but MAN...
If I get some time on my hands(read weeks), I would love to try it.

Nodes rules.. I would love to see it applied everywhere in LW, the motion mixer, grapheditor, motionsolvers. Think what possibilites to be able to link anything with everything..

Hmm.. Dreaming away..

Anyways, great work.
