View Full Version : Vista and 64bit

I'm curious to know how people feel currently about the stability of Vista with the current release of lightwave and the 32bit vs 64bit switch.

I'm still using XP32 and have been waiting for the issues such as missing plugins and bugs to clear up some before upgrading.

With a little more ram and the os purchase my systems will be easily be able to handle it; but is the benefit in render speed and performance worth the time and money to upgrade?

Where's the Vista64 option?

Actually I wasn't sure there even was a 32bit version of vista.

There most definitely is. ;)
I voted for Vista x64, because that's what I use - with LW 9.5 x64.

Lots of people might feel inclined to come along and say, "No way! Vista sucks! I'll use XP 'til the day I die!", but don't you believe them. ;)

Vista x64 here as well.
Having said that, I run XP32 and XP64 on other, older, machines as well. But the main one is Vista.

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate your opinions.
I understand the latest creative suite from Adobe is pretty well optimized for 64bit too so it feels like now might be a good time to switch.

We have all the flavors of XP and Vista in the studio. I really don't like Vista but with the 64bit version you can render really heavy scenes without memory issues. The last you want is to go home for the weekend leaving the renderfarm running to discover monday the render crashed in the first frames because of out of memory errors.
