Bad drivers be damned! I am an ati guy through and through. I would go with the 3800 or 4800 series. I am not biased..... really! :hey:

I have a work machine that has Nvidia Quaddro FX 4500 which rocks, and a home machine with a Nvidia GeForce GTX8800 which also rocks.
The Quaddro costs probably about 4 times as much as the GeForce, but to be honest, if someone had switched the cards around without telling me I would probably never notice. They both perform equally well for me.
I never have problems with either one which is all I require from my video cards. I don't want to even know they are there.
I don't recall even changing any of the default settings.
No 'tweekage" required.

There are newer models than my GTX8800, so I'll see anything that outspecs that card should be gold.
I recommend Nvidia.

I have an ATI HD4850 and it is a breeze to work with Lightwave on it. I was a bit wary as I've heard horror stories on ATI and Lightwave, but I have now about 2 months with the card, and no mysterious thingies have happened.
