View Full Version : Make preview extremely slow

Slower than I think it should be, anyway. At school my simple bouncing ball animation (with a null and nothing else) takes less than a second to make a preview of the animation, but here at home it takes 3-4 seconds. This worries me for later, more complex animations.

At school the computer has a Pentium 4, 3.2ghz I think. Here I have a Core 2 Quad Q6600 overclocked (just as stable as not) to 3.15ghz. I'm also positive my video card is more powerful, but it is an ATI 3870 X2. Is there a setting I must have wrong? Scene file is attached for testing. Also, I'm using LW 9.5 32-bit on Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, tried it on the 64 bit version of LW, same result.

Anyone know at least what I should look into as the bottleneck here? (CPU, graphics card...?)

Make sure Aero is turned on under Vista and verify that your video card drivers are up to date.

Check and check, also I just tested the 64-bit version of 9.5, it's a little faster, but still no where near where it should be.

maybe the x2 fact in your vid card bogs it down?!.. since it uses opengl..
driver prob..not sure..

I guess it could be that it's an ATI card with 2 GPU's, but it's hard to believe it should be so much slower than the 2 generations old nVidia 7x00's at school. I've heard nVidia cards tend to work better with LW, is this really the case?

I believe that's generally true - most threads on this topic seem to end up with that conclusion. I've only ever used Nvidia and they work great.
