Hello all,

I'm new to 3D and new to Lightwave - I'm just wondering if anyone out there could help me with the following :

1. I am an architect and I use ArchiCAD - I model my buildings in ArchiCAD and would like to export to LW 9 to create photo realistic still image renderings - I have read various posts on here about LW being a little flaky / unreliable on Mac - I can't really recall reading whether the Mac flakiness was specific to certain parts of the program or just generally - so my first question is : will there be any bugs or pitfalls in the way that I intend to use LW 9 ?

2. I am interested in purchasing the book " Essential Lightwave 9" by Steve Warner, and I am wondering if LW 9.5 has added any new features since the publication of this book ? If so, what are the new features that the book won't cover ?

Thanks in advance to all respondents.

Some minor changes but its probably the best book on the topic out there. :)

What Larry said.

FYI: I've used Lightwave on various Macs since 2000 and it's completely stable and reliable. However: if you buy Lightwave in the next month or so with the intent of running it on a 2008 Intel Mac running Leopard, you will probably want to enroll in the 9.5 Open Beta program (in my experience, the 9.5 beta is rock-solid in terms of stability.) The present official release (9.3.1) has been reported to be a bit slow and crash-prone for many users on newer Macs.

If you haven't bought LW yet, they often have learning packs, like getting coupons for Essential Lightwave 9.x book, and CDs of objects and DVDs and other stuff like Tshirts, caps, and I believe you get a plasma rifle in the 40 terrawatt range.

You also might want to look into getting LWCAD 3.0 for your copy of LW if you end up buying it.

It might be worth it alone for the DXF import / export tools.

I loved Essential LW 9 but I also really loved Inside LW 9. I have them both and I'm glad bought them. They both come with a ton of free videos on DVD. Also check out all of the free videos that William has created: 24 Hours of free video training (http://newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77002)
