Very nice. For a moment it reminded me of old Dave Jerrards tutorial in LW Applied book.

Will grab the next HDRI issue.

Cheers!

Amy I the only one having trouble with this tutorial? Seems like the screenshots and the actual tutorial don't match up at all.

The values in the figure images are showing negative values (figures 14 & 16), but the directions call for positive values.

I'm not getting anything like in the magazine. Can you clarify some of the steps?

There was a miss print. here are the correct numbers

There will also be a PDF file with the corrected numbers available to download at HDRI website

Sorry for the mix up

Now we need to add a new layer of Transparency to keep the black towards the bottom of the flame. Add a gradient layer with the input parameter set to “Particle Age”.

Set the Layer opacity to 50%.

Set the Key at 0 with a value of 100%.

Create a Key at 17 with a value of 73%.

Create a Key at 23 with a value of -25.75%.

Create the final Key at 30 with a value of -92.5%.

The last layer of Transparency will cover up the black at the very bottom of the flame leaving some black only in the middle. Add a Gradient with the input parameter set to Previous Layer, with a Blending mode of Subtractive.

Set the Key at 0 make the value at -140% and the Alpha at 0%.

Create a Key at 0.825 with a value of -127% and the Alpha at 15.5%.

Create the final Key at 1 with a value of -58% and Alpha at 100%.

I've been having trouble finding the magazine by me so this was a push to subscribe. If you subscribe you get a discount on back issues so you can still order issue 23 too. Looking forward to getting it.

William, is your tutorial on the sketch look in one already too?

I'll subscribe probably, just want to make sure I backorder that one too if it was already published.
