Hi !
I'm newbie.
I need a more detailled and interesting cartoon character iris (colours). How to do this quickly ? Thanks to post some examples and methods !

So basic it is here ;-)

Lw v9.5.

Well, if you need a more advanced texture than that, try painting an iris in PS and apply that there.

Make a big black circle. Then a slitghtly smaller one with a color of yours choosing for an eye (green, blue, brown, mixed or even red for dracula for instance). And then what I do is smudge the outer black towrds the center from all directions of the circle. Always from outer black towards your eye colores and towards the center. When you do this in all directions, just make a smaller black circle in the middle of it all and it should look fine.

Additionally you could also smudge from the center new black outwards little bit here and there.

Here my favorite eye setup, inspired by Dan Ablan - I use this kind of setup in almost every characters I create

it has a skelegon so you can animate it, a morph so you can size up/down the pupil - also you can change the iris color by adjusting the hue in the image editor

Enjoy :)

Oh Dans eye is far more photorelistic, natural looking and better alright. But if you were going for easy and fast this is how I did it. Especially for Celshaded characters.

Something quick and good as in PS.

I use photoshop radial blur, the zoom option. The actual pupil lies where the brightest part is. Rough out the shape, the put a little random noise over it, then radial blur it.

Could play with the cloud>difference cloud filters with 2 good colors then do what Shrox described.
