I think you might have to access the forum through the forums link and then go to the exporters section, but here's the link I got

http://www.luxrender.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=303

exporter coming to us thanks to SteveMoody. One of many LW heroes :D

edit: oops - got beat to the punch!

I really look forward to this. Luxrender is quite impressive.
Thanks Steve!

Just a quick post to show that i'm still working on the exporter.

I've tried exporting a high (1.2 million) poly model from Lightwave to Lux. There's a few errors in the export as you can see with the few black areas and the stripes that seem to appear in front of the tank treads but the export seems to be fairly good so far.

I'm working on getting basic material support implemented. Lux only supports one material per object so i have to break up the model based on surfaces and export it as several separate objects.

The scene is being lit by the sky, no lights are being exported just yet.

Here's some of the things i still have to do:

Export Lights
Support ngons (only triangles at the moment)
Basic Material Support
Improved Material Support via a lux shader
Better camera matching to Lightwave's camera
Control panel for render settings

Once i have this up to a reasonable working state i'll release it.

Steve

Good man, Steve!
Having watched how long it took to get Maxwell working properly with LW (for a long time you had to Triple all your polygons!), I know you have your work cut out.

Just out of curiosity, why export lights to such a renderer? Do you mean luminous surfaces?

Looking very cool! This will be very nice to have! :D

Sorry no updates just yet, been busy working on a couple of other things. As soon as i have something i will post it here. Once i have a version that is ready for testing i'll release it publicly so anyone can test it :)

Wow :) it's a great new that finally someone decided to make an exporter for this render engine.

Any news on the Lightwave LuxRender exporter?

:)

I hadn't heard of Lux until now. There's some impressive gallery images but the render times look even worse than early versions of Maxwell...Is anyone here using it professionally?...and how does it compare with Maxwell and Fry (apart from the price)?

Any news of the state of the exporter ??

I've had very little free time recently so i've not been able to do much work on my exporter but i've seen on the lux forums that someone else is working on an exporter and seem to be further along with progress than me.

The plugin at this point has everything hard coded - i.e. no user interface - which means it is not suitable for release.

Lately however I have commenced thinking again about what needs doing next and how best to go about it. Obviously one of those tasks will be the implementation of suitable user interface. Before that though a lot more of the 'internals' must be put in place.

Maybe give Matt Gorner a nudge, he's the Lightwave interface guy

*digs up thread and brings it ack to the table after blowing dust off*

Soooooo.... I'm going to assume that this never happened. I went to the Lux site and there's no lightwave plugin... darn that's disappointing.

I'd sure love to play with Lux but don't wanna have to learn how to redo the scene in blender to do it.

*sigh* oh well... disappointment central.

Yep, very sad, indeed, I have a feeling that LW will never get unbiased rendering :(

Eh? what about Maxwell or Fryrender?

I take it you mean MLT based rendering.

Fixed for you.
