does anyone have any tips or tricks in lightwave to create the transparent 3D interfaces like on Minority Report and Iron Man (and countless other sci-fi and futuristic movies)

here are some examples of what i'm talking about

To be comped into footage?

They are just graphic overlays done in Photoshop or a Compositor like After Effects, Combustion, Fusion, etc. No geometry needed.

Yup, they used a compositor to motion track elements (hands or whatever) then attached images to the movement.

ah, interesting. that makes alot of sense

so i guess the easiest way is to create the designs in photoshop first, then add the movement/glows while in the compositor?

i feel stupid now.

Well, your compositor could be LightWave...

You could animate all the interface elements in Lw

Don't use LW for this. AE is much easier!

'nuther vote for AE here. It's Photoshop with keyframes. Makes this sort of thing a snap. Also, just a little forethought makes the final comp really easy, too - have your actor holding a board or whatever in a unique, primary colour with four black Xes in the corners. Then track each X with the really-rather-competent Motion Tracker, feed that data into Corner Pin, and boom. Your interface is mapped onto the board, and you can key out the flat colour to get the actor's arm back in. Easy money.
