hi :lwicon: ers :)
this is my 2nd tut of making feathers .
this time i used the modeler FFX so instead of cloning an object to another just use the FFX you can add your own texture you can control it with wight map ...
blah blah blah :D
ok ok download it from here
http://a-alqadi.net/tut/Feather_tut2.wmv

Nice mini tutorial, it demonstrates nicely how to use the polygonal side of FFX. Good job.

Have any renders?

Hi!

Nice to see someone so willing to work ahead with such a damaged crash willing part of Lightwave 9.5. Got some questions that I hope you can answer.

1. In your last video its very hard to see where in the menu system you are picking up different parts in the work flow. Is it possible to describe where in the menu you are orienting either by sound or imaging? I cannot say weather youīre in modeler or layout in the beginning of the video and it would be nice to know.

2. Where did you pick upp the Fiber FX Strand modeler, is it located in Modeler or Layout? Itīs impossible to see in that video and I really want to try it out because it looks kind of interactive to me.

3. I wonder if you experience the same problems as me when playing around in FFX... it crashes almost all the time!

Thanks for the tutorail alqadi.

I'll put FFX to work soon as I have a short that features a few feathered characters.

sorry for that jaxtone :foreheads
I said in the 1st post that I'm using the modeler fiperfx but no problem at all :)
form modeler you can find it in Utilities->Additional or simply add it from the edit menu layout .
in my modeler i moved it to Construct.
from layout simply hit Ctrl+F8 and add it from Add Pixel Filter.
and I did some images just for you i hope that you'll find useful.
BTW big thanks to those links I appreciate your help.
Mike Borjon :
sounds interesting can't wait to see your work.
good luck .

heh nice the bad thing with this OBJECT based fur is morphs..... well this is good for non morph characters since making some morphs will not affect fur and that makes trouble when animating that kind of characters.....

it would be nice that FFX get instances so that we can define custom shape feathers that will be applied just like alqadi show in his tutorial

Alqadi!

Thanks for the help... Got a question!

How come that FFX crashes in Layout pretty often. I did send an e-mail to Ben at Lightwave Europe about it but he told me that his FFX doesnīt crash at all... "I wonder if heīs got another copy of 9.5"?

He also asked me to be more specific but I find that very hard since the crashes donīt appear frequently but randomly.

What about you guys in here! Are your FFX system correct and never crash or am I just the unlucky one in here?

thanks a lot, really useful video...
my little swallow has feathers at last...now, how do I apply a feather image or surface?
and will the feathers react to bone influence, as the rest of the mesh is using bones?
any help much valued

nice tutorial, thanks....
getting close to what i want using the approach you have outlined, the geometry option in modeller would work fine for my purposes, but I'm hitting what I'm sure is a newbie problem....I've UV mapped a nice feather image (yes, also ta jaxtone)
onto the geometry, but i cant get the UV map to utilise the tranparency in the alpha channel---i've used tga, png, psd files to the same effect...
so i'm either DOING SOMETHING STUPID (a likely case)
or UV maps will not recognise transparency...(surely unlikely?)

i cant utilise the first tutorial approach of doing it all in layout, due to the mac problems with FFX currently, so the geometry option in modeller seems my best option....but i dont want those nasty square and triangular shapes...
any suggestions?

Hi Alquadi,
I was trying to see your stuff at: http://a-alqadi.net/tut/Feather_tut2.wmv but the server has reached the bandwith limit, is there a problem? I really need your tut, since I'm working on a model that NEEDS feathers, and this would save my life....
Thanks buddy.

hello again :lwicon: ers
sorry for delay
I traveled to my village, about 800 kilometers from the place I was living and
Internet service is very bad there.
m0184you :glad to see you here.
skate23:
with my old laptop I made a test for that and the result was the Attached File
I'm sure you are not DOING SOMETHING STUPID just try again:)
I didn't test the bone with this and i hope to find time for that.
Fernee : what a shame man and I'm very sorry for this I hope to help you so soon .

I dont get it. When I try your example using UVbias, the guides will not flatten along the normals for me. They instead tend to always flatten out along one axis. Am guessing there is some difference in the poly flow to address(?).

I feel your pain. I'm actually working on a -cartoon- crow also, and I spend a lot of time getting the feathers done. Tryed every method, texturing, displacement maps, fiberfx, putting feathers using splines and even placing feathers by hand! Non of it worked out as I wanted.

So I decided to just take my best result and go on! I have been spending to much time allready, and I want the project to get finished sometime :P

So all I can do is show you the feathers I've got and if you are interested give you the fiberFX settings! Although not sure if it will work for a realistic bird!
