Finally some decent characters with hair using FFX. The only crit would be where the hair meets the scalp. Needs some more shadowing or something. I imagine that's a tricky thing to get looking right.

Excellent. Thanks for sharing the FFX settings.

Did you use guides for the hair?

Holy crap, that's awesome looking! Great job!

Awesome job all round, ( and yes, the hair is really good.... )

great work... congrats !

That's really great. I actually like where the hair meets the forehead. What a great example of FiberFX. Did you ZBrush the model or textures?

I'd really like to see a tabletop animation of this model with the hair. (There still seems to be a lack of animation examples when it comes to FiberFX.)

Simply awesome!

Hi, great job and thanks for the details. I am ready to stroll through the so-called "uncanny valley" of almost photoreal humanoids.

09-09-2008, 06:38 PM
Excellent ... I was beginning to thing FFX stood for "Fur FX" and not hair.

Nice work - and NT has featured in the bottom links on the front page of the LW site!
I am humbled by your work, but I did notice the hair looks a little soft... I should shut up though because I can't do better than you :-)

I love the simplicity of your texture maps, great stuff!

Great work Turri, really great.
May I ask about your lighting setup? Whenever I try to use simpleskin node, lighting is a headache for me to get the realism. It seems that your light rig fits for the skin realism.
Can you share it? A layout screen capture would give us your lighting idea.

thank you all so much for your Feedback and comments

i used ZBrush do sculping the Model.

I cant do a Tabletop Animation, the rendertimes are very high ( 6-7 Hours) ;)

the lightsetup is quite simple

i have 1 warm key light , 1 cold blue Fill light , 2 white backlights and a dimly red bottom light :)

all area lights

also i have a eye pointlight only for the reflections in the eyes ( you dont see it on the picture, it is to mini)

have fun to make cool Heads ;)

I would try fewer area lights and use Animated Cache Radiosity in 9.5. A single frame should not take that long on a modern machine. Also take a look at the interpolated option in Simple skin now. Much much faster. Thanks again for the tips!

thanks i will try it ! and for the simpleskin shader i forgot a tipp.. on your model the surface must doublesided on

greetings turri

Try your model with double sided off. I don't think you'll see a difference anymore. This was changed for LW 9.3.1.
